Weck Hemoclip Ligation System
WECK® HEMOCLIP® TRADITIONAL LIGATING SYSTEM
The Hemoclip system is the world's leading ligating-clip system. For over 40 years, the word "Hemoclip" has meant preformed precision clip-closure and durable, high quality applier instrumentation. Hemoclips offer several advantages versus suture for blood vessel ligation: 1) Significant reduction in surgical time; 2) Improved access in confined surgical sites; 3) Reduced patient table time resulting in lower anesthesia and operating room costs; 4) Improved visibility of the surgical site.
Safe and Secure
The Hemoclip ligating clip is one of the most carefully engineered pieces of equipment in a veterinarian's operating room. The Hemoclip is designed to engulf vessels completely prior to closing. Therefore, the opportunity for the vessel to escape the clip during closure is eliminated. In support of the clips' tenacious grip and secure closure, "The clips have been tested on rubber tubing and have withstood pressures of 15 pounds per square inch, which is far beyond any pressure encounterd physiologically." Thus, with proper application, the probability of the clip slipping or migrating is virtually eliminated.
Time Saving
It has been documented that Hemoclips can save veterinarians substantial time and money, especially during routine surgical procedures. The clipping of blood vessels proceeds faster than the time taken to clamp and ligate vessels with conventional suture material. This results in shorter surgical time for the patient and the veterinarian. In one study, the use of Hemoclips in ovariohysterectomies reduced the surgical time by approximately 24% in dogs and 33% in cats.
Technique in General
The vessel to be clipped should be dissected free of as much surrounding tissue as possible. However, Hemoclips have often been placed successfully on vessels without removal of perivascular fat. In general, it is recommended that the diameter of the ligated vessel be no more than two-thirds the length of the Hemoclip when the distal tips first meet. Vessels should never be less than one-third the diameter of the clip.
Convenient
Hemoclips are designed for ligating convenience in the hard-to-reach areas where conventional suturing is difficult, as well as complex procedures where total surgery time can be cut in half.
Samuels Hemoclip Ring-Handled Appliers
Samuels Hemoclip Appliers are available in a wide range of jaw configurations in the familiar ring-handled design. All Samuels Appliers feature slim tips, a detachable spring for easy cleaning and sterilization, and clip-size color coding on both ring handles. These appliers can only be used with Weck Hemoclip ligation clips. Samuels Appliers are covered by a lifetime guarantee and will be repaired or replaced free of charge for the lifetime of the instrument.
Weck Hemoclip Clips
Each Hemoclip clip is constructed of heart-shaped wire, contributing to the tenacious gripping traction on the vessel, while allowing a uniform expansion area for compressed vessel tissue. Gripping power is further enhanced by a series of machine-coined grooves transverse to the longitudinal groove. The three-cornered, preformed Hemoclip clip design helps ensure precise tip-to-tip closure, virtually eliminating uneven-tip closures and consequently missed vessel tissue. Hemoclip clips close on the distal tips so that the clip engulfs the entire vessel prior to closure. The Hemoclip clip is annealed for softness to allow the most complete possible closure along the entire length of the clip, even at the proximal crotch of the clip.
Hemoclip clips are available in three distinct types of metal...stainless steel, titanium and tantulum. The primary metal type used by veterinary surgical procedures is stainless steel. Each clip size is packaged on color-coded plastic cartridges, which corresponds with the colors on the Samuels Appliers ring handles.
